Womanism: The Physics of Womanism

Womanist thought has transformed the academy and various ways of engaging the world; it has intersected with many fields of study and research.  While the seminal texts in womanism point to possibilities of engagement with the sciences, these intersections have not been thoroughly explored.  This course provides an introduction to the theoethics of womanism through an inquiry into the physics and science, more broadly, of womanism.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

  1. To gain deep knowledge of and familiarity with womanist thought.
  2. To define, identify, articulate, and analyze the intersections between womanism and science – with an emphasis on physics.
  3. To engage a variety of interdisciplinary literatures to cull common theoethical principles of womanism.
  4. To develop creative and integrative research skills that enable students to identify strengths and limitations of womanist thought – especially as it relates to other fields of thought.
  5. To imagine the futures of womanism.
