Work Load Grid fall 2016.docx this document does not describe the assignments, but it does show what is due each week of the term. It's the basic document to plan with.
Workshop format focuses on heightening skills for preaching by examining the preparation process, sermon development, cultivation of resources for preparation, appropriateness of content and style for the congregation, delivery and evaluation. Students will each identify specific personal learning goals that will focus on aspects of their preaching process they will improve. The course will also introduce Bandy's theory of 7 worship ways and the kinds of preaching appropriate to each. Students will identify their congregant's preferred worship way and focus on improving their delivery of that form of preaching. Topics may also include how to use preaching to lead a congregation into new vitality, or to prepare a congregation to close.
This course is designed specifically for Journey students in appointments where they preach weekly. It brings academic reflection to the weekly rhythm of preaching and its place among the tasks of congregational leadership. In this way, the course bridges theories in mission, evangelism, pastoral care, leadership, and homiletics with the weekly tasks of preachers.
To establish bridges between theory and practice and to establish habits for evaluating one's own public performance of preaching. This course hones homiletic skills begun in other courses in the curriculum.
