Course Overview

Welcome to the course! I am excited to be your instructor and can’t wait to get to know you.

This course surveys the oppressive U.S. systems created to channel children and youth of color from the public school system into the juvenile and criminal justice system. I will share a wide and diverse range of resources pertaining to this subject for your use, review, study, and reflection. You will conduct independent research to understand the implications of this phenomenon in one of your communities. You will then critically examine various strategies designed to disrupt and dismantle these systems. We will participate in an action when you come to Denver. This entire process is designed to assist you in developing your proposed action and final paper.

Denver Advocacy = 40 points (Please note: If you do not attend class in Denver, you will not pass the course.)
