Note from Instructor: 11/29/16 This syllabus is under construction. The basic course outline as it stands on this home page is accurate. All of the reading and viewing materials for Weeks 1 & 2 are already available, as are the guidelines for all of the written assignments. I will be adding the many reading and viewing materials that will be required in addition to the required textbooks listed in the link below over the next few weeks.

PLEASE NOTE that I will be traveling outside of the country from December 6-22, and will be unavailable for communications.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

How do we build and sustain grassroots communities that resist injustice, imagine a new world and create real change? We will examine these questions by studying historical and contemporary examples of communities and individuals who have done this kind of work in faith groups, justice organizations and social movements. Students will identify elements of how to develop social change agency, examine the resistance to “resistance,” and reflect upon their own role in creating and nurturing such communities.
