Teaching Authentically: We Teach Who We Are

IST 2053

November 28 – December 2, 2016

(Winter Quarter 2012)

Mon – Fri 9:30 – 12:30, Mon, Tues, Thurs 1:30 -2:45

Jane E. Vennard

Description:

Teaching is an integral part of ministry in any setting. We do not have to be before a classroom of students to experience the power of the teaching/learning experience. Teaching moments appear in many forms. This class will explore the basic ingredients in the art of teaching: respect of students, love of subject, claiming authority, using personal language, and growing in self-awareness. The class is experiential and will include large and small group work, personal reflection, dialogue and a variety of spiritual practices.

Goals:

Students participating fully and completing this course can expect to:

  1. Explore how they might be called to teaching as an integral part of

their call to ministry.

  1. Develop an understanding of the basic attitudes and skills

that lead to teaching authentically.

  1. Learn ways to become self aware by exploring their inner

landscapes so that they will be able to teach with integrity.
